Kritiek op Byron Katie
Katie tells people to never do The Work with the motive of getting something. She says that the only reason for doing The Work is for the love of truth. At the same time she promises the end of suffering, no stress, improved relationships, a life filled with joy, etc. To me this is a contradiction and also highly confusing.
Most of the people that I know who do The Work, do it to get out of a bad feeling. In other words, to become happy. We all seek pleasure and want to avoid pain. There is nothing wrong with this. It is what we all want, all day long.
There are people who think they are doing The Work wrong, because they still get angry or sad. After all, Katie says she hasn’t gotten angry or sad since 1986, and she is the role model for The Work. She also says that unless you love your enemy like your dearest friend, your work isn’t done. These are lovely words, but they paint a picture of what you should look and be like in order to reach the final destination. If you don’t, then the implication would be that you haven’t understood it properly or haven’t mastered it yet.
Haar methode “The work” blijf ik de moeite vinden, maar BK maakt er precies meer van dan wat het is. Ik heb net de blog ontdekt van iemand die 12 jaar voor BK werkte en veel dingen in vraag stelt. Eens interessant om te lezen, zeker voor fans die wat ontnuchtering kunnen gebruiken (ikzelf inbegrepen).
Ik geloof dat je met elke ‘goeroe’ moet opletten om zijn/haar idealen niet te verwarren met de (menselijke) werkelijkheid.

Ik denk dat een goede leraar dat dient mee te nemen in zijn onderricht.
@Marloes Precies. In elk geval is het iets wat ik vanaf nu in mijn achterhoofd hou als ik weer eens enthousiast ben over een boek.
